Former Lieutenant Governor, Diane Denish, has joined the New Mexico Health Connections board of directors.
During her time as Lt. Governor, Denish served as chair of the Insure New Mexico Task Force in the mid-2000s. She worked on several landmark New Mexico Initiatives state?s premium assistance efforts, which sought to help parents cover children who otherwise would not be Medicaid eligible, and the New Mexico State Coverage Initiative.
President of the New Mexico Health Connection Board, Nandini Pillai Kuehn said the board is excited to welcome Denish.
?Diane is a great addition to our board. She brings strong leadership and practical experience as a former small-business owner,? said Kuehn. ?It?s not often you find someone who offers both real policy leadership experience and a practical understanding of the insurance industry, and that?s what Diane brings.?
New Mexico Health Connection is the state's new, non-profit, consumer oriented insurance plan. It will start offering plans to individuals and small groups in both the commercial market and on the Health Insurance Exchange in October 2013.
Denish is confident in the new insurance plan.
?New Mexico Health Connections is a new and innovative approach to covering more people and injecting competition into the local insurance market,? Denish said. ?Once it is up and running, I am confident our model of putting patients first and keeping people healthy will drive down health costs and help change the current broken model.?
