James Drzewiecki Selected to Lead PUC's Men's Soccer Program ...

HAMMOND, Ind. ? The Purdue University Calumet athletic department announced the hiring of James Drzewiecki as the head coach of the new men?s soccer program during a press conference on February 1, 2012. The Peregrines will begin play this fall with a full varsity schedule.

?James has experience with a ?start-up? program as he began the program at Ancilla where he competed in the Michigan Community College Athletic Conference, one of the strongest in the NJCAA,? said Purdue Calumet interim athletic director John Friend. ?He was recognized as MCCAA Coach of the Year in 2008 and has strong recruiting ties in Northwest Indiana. We are thrilled to have landed someone with the great experience and high character that James possesses.?

Drzewiecki spent the past five seasons at Ancilla College, where he compiled a 40-39-5 overall record and three-straight NJCAA Region XII Playoff appearances. The 2008 Michigan Community College Athletic Association Coach of the Year started the program from scratch in 2007, winning seven matches in the team?s first season. He would go on to record winning campaigns in three of the next four seasons, racking up a 33-29-5 overall record and a 27-21-2 mark in conference play in that span.

He has helped Ancilla develop four NJCAA First Team All-Region XII selections, nine NJCAA Second Team All-Region XII honorees and 12 All-MCCAA selections. More than 15 of his former players have gone on to continue their collegiate careers, while one signed a professional contract. Drzewiecki began a stint at Middle Georgia College in 2004 as an assistant, before being promoted to interim head coach in 2005. Prior to that, he served as the director of Purdue Calumet?s men?s soccer club from 2002-04.

The Purdue Calumet men?s soccer program will compete as an independent NAIA institution during the 2012 campaign, before joining the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule in 2013. The addition of men?s and women?s soccer is part of the latest installment of Purdue Calumet?s athletic expansion plan, as the athletic department currently sponsors 10 intercollegiate sport programs and will jump to 12 with the planned addition of baseball and softball for the 2013-14 campaign.

The Schererville, Ind. native holds an NSCAA National Diploma and a USSF ?D? License and graduated from Purdue Calumet in 2004 with a degree in communications. He currently resides in Schererville.
