Little Deviants (PSV) Review | Video Games News, Reviews ...

I?m glad that Little Deviants exists, as it works as a great tech demo that?shows off every feature of the PlayStation Vita. However, it shouldn?t be a $30 retail game. Instead, Sony should have bundled the game for free with every system and not expected us to spend?so much?on a glorified mini-game collection.?

Little Deviants starts off?with the Deviants flying through space, getting shot down, landing on Earth, and?having zombies and other evil things pop up.?It may sound like you then must stop the evil from taking over the world, but past?that opening,?the story?is never really?referenced again. All you do is select a mini-game from a very basic select screen, with new ones unlocking once you reach high enough scores in that particular game.?30 may sound like a lot, yet they all repeat, with minor environment changes between each game. So instead of 30 full-fledged mini games, you are treated to the same 5 or so experiences over and over?again.

For the first mini-game, it harnesses the rear camera and?uses Augmented Reality,?having?you shoot down enemies in very similar fashion?to that of the?free Face Raiders on 3DS. Using?AR is always fun, because seeing a space ship come out of a vortex in your wall is entertaining, yet the shooting portion just doesn?t work very well.?I just?never found the?bullets were going exactly?where I was pointing the aiming reticule, leading me to repeat the game a couple of times before I was able to get a high enough score to unlock a new game.

Other than using AR, you can expect a very boring game that has you tapping robots in small doors, either using the front or rear touch screen to hit them in the back. As you can expect, it gets really?annoying when you play it for the third time around and all they change is the robots? sizes.

After you tap those robots enough, you will use the rear touch screen to manipulate the ground to roll your Deviant around the world, collecting?stars and reaching portals before the time runs out. Like most games in Little Deviants, it is fun at first and then gets boring after they repeat it for the third, fourth, or fifth time. As much as it shows off just how responsive the rear touch screen can be, the gameplay?is just?too basic.

Lastly, you will be using the tilt functionality of the PlayStation Vita to guide floating Deviants through various caverns, or using it to roll around levels, collecting even more stars. The tilting itself?works and is very responsive, but I never felt completely in control of where?my Deviant?was going?or I would have to tilt too far sometimes and I wouldn?t even be able to see the screen.

When it comes down to it, Little Deviants is a great way to show off the various features of the PlayStation Vita, but it isn?t very fun and there is very little variety in the mini games. If you want to use all the features of the system in one game, by all means, pick it up. But be warned, this is a very average game, with too high of a price tag.
