Dan Sullivan, Rome Snowboards International Sales Manager goes over their new 2013/2014 snowboard boot line.

What overall trends are you seeing in the boot market?

Fit. Fit drives everything in boots. If your foot feels good and is held comfortably in control, it lets you drive your board the way you want to. Intelligent material selection for function and style is also an important direction in our line?distressed leathers, lightweight textiles, cush materials against the foot and strong attention to detail. Lacing systems such as Boa are also playing an important role the direction of boot styles and innovation. With faster and more efficient capabilities available with alternative lacing it is directly affecting further technology in liners, outsoles, and Eva integration.

?

Has your approach to lacing systems evolved in the past few years? If so, how?

For this upcoming line we are introducing Boa Technology in three different configurations. Retailers spoke, and we listened. From different parts of the US we heard that Boa was the lacing system that many retailers wanted in our line. Boa is a streamline, effective, and quick system that utilizes a low profile approach that holds tight with on the go customization. We have always and will always run boots with traditional laces, but even with that we have taken it to new levels, evolving it into our Leverage Lacing system. Both Boa and Leverage Lacing are examples of continual growth in our lacing systems and boot designs.

What new construction techniques, technologies, or fabrics do you anticipate breaking out next year?

Our new F.I.T. Liners combine key areas of memory foam, heat-moldable foams, deluxe face fabrics and molded flex panels for better fit and better flex. With these liners, insert foot for good times. At the high end, we?re also introducing a liner outsole for better fit of liner in the shell (and for walking around camp on a backcountry trip). Integration of more sophisticated materials for style, flex and weight is a key part of our design process for the year?material selection has been painstaking.

?

What trends do you anticipate in the realm of graphics and colors?

Solid colors and hue matching has been on the rise for mid and high end price point boots while lower end price points have benefited well because of large logo placement of accent color usage. Black is always a safe bet and as tech features advance they begin to shadow the flashy look of higher end boots.
